Flea — Honora

The fact that Flea's first solo album is a jazz record will surprise no one who has paid attention. He has been talking about Ornette Coleman and Miles Davis in interviews for years; he studied trumpet at the Los Angeles Philharmonic's music school as a teenager. What is surprising is how fully he commits. Produced by Josh Johnson and featuring Jeff Parker on guitar, Anna Butterss on bass, and Deantoni Parks on drums — the core of LA's contemporary jazz scene — Honora is not a rock musician's vacation in another genre. It is ten tracks of genuine inquiry, six originals and four covers that range from Funkadelic's "Maggot Brain" (reimagined as a trumpet piece) to Frank Ocean's "Thinkin Bout You" (deconstructed into chamber music). In 2011, WU LYF released Go Tell Fire to the Mountain, a record of ecstatic, half-comprehensible post-punk that arrived wrapped in deliberate mystique — no interviews, no press photos, an invented language of sorts. Then they disappeared. No breakup announcement, no farewell tour, just fifteen years of silence. Their return, produced by Sonic Boom of Spacemen 3 and recorded at Lisbon's Namouche Studios, strips away the earlier posturing and reveals something unexpectedly clear. Six Missing — drift, sway

Austin-based sound designer TJ Dumser released drift in March — six pieces built around minimal guitar loops, gentle tape textures, and spacious effects. drift, sway is its companion and expansion: ten tracks composed through meditative improvisation using delay pedals, loopers, and minimal layers of vintage synthesizers. The Boss DD-20 sits at the heart of the process, flanked by the Count to Five, the Avalanche Run, and careful swells from a Minimoog and Polysix. Prism Shores — Softest Attack

Montreal's Prism Shores follow their 2025 breakthrough Out From Underneath with a record that trades nocturnal atmospherics for something more immediate. The hooks arrive faster, the melodies cut deeper, and the production — by Scott "Monty" Munro at Studio St. Zo, with mastering by Mikey Young — finds a sweet spot between nineties power-pop crunch and shoegaze shimmer that recalls the Boo Radleys at their most buoyant, Teenage Fanclub at their sweetest, and Sugar at their noisiest. Kewl Haze — Suburban Sherpa

Derek Sheehan, formerly of the dream-pop outfit Weekender, and Dan Scott Forreal, who spent time drumming for Mod Sun after leading Colorado psych-funk crew Miscomunicado, spent four years assembling this debut from their respective home studios in Philadelphia. Eleven tracks that move through six decades of British and American psychedelia — the paisley sprawl of the late sixties, the loose-hipped groove of the seventies, the baggy ecstasy of Madchester, the bright smirk of Britpop — without ever settling into pastiche.
