A box that arrives on the exact anniversary of a death is a small act of either tact or marketing — sometimes both at once. Munrow was the man who pulled the recorder out of the schoolroom and made it the lead instrument on serious recordings of Machaut, Dunstable, Holborne, and the entire Henry VIII and His Six Wives soundtrack. He ran the BBC's Pied Piper for 655 broadcasts. The Early Music Consort of London he founded in 1967 became the template for every period-instrument ensemble after it. Twenty-one discs, all the Argo / EMI sessions, the Court Music, the Medieval recorder anthology, the Renaissance dances. The pitch was unusual from the start: three full volumes from a single residency, released across three months, the third arriving digital-only. Wilkins, Micah Thomas, Ryoma Takenaga, Kweku Sumbry. Vol. 1 in March was the introduction; Vol. 2 in April was the room learning the band; Vol. 3 is what happens when the band stops worrying about the room. Four extended pieces — "Ring Shout," "Composition IX," "Dolla$," "Put 100 on the Blue Chain" — that breathe the way they couldn't on the studio records. Wilkins keeps reaching back to ring-shout cadences and gospel hand-clap phrasing while Thomas plays piano like he's annotating an argument the saxophone hasn't finished. Eight years since Voids, and the producer once filed under bass / dubstep returns with what is, by any reasonable count, a jazz record. Duval Timothy on piano, Lucinda Chua on cello, Mischa Porte on drums, Mark Cisneros on saxophone, Musa Okwonga reciting on one track. The weight that defined Deijkers's earlier work is replaced by air — rhythm cells that thin out instead of build, harmonies that resolve sideways rather than down. It is the rare ambient-adjacent record that doesn't slip into score-music wallpaper, partly because Martyn's bass intuition still anchors everything underneath. Castlewood, Virginia, population 1,800, has produced exactly one band you'd reach for after midnight, and this is them. Dave Cobb at the desk — the man behind the early Sturgill Simpson and Jason Isbell records — which raises the obvious concern that he'd sand the band into another Americana radio prospect. He doesn't. Singer Issac Gibson has the country trick of not pushing every chorus, and Cobb gives the band room to leave its rougher edges intact. Ten songs that read like a small-town atlas — "Oh Savannah," "Heavy Chevy," "Bringin' Home the Bacon" — and don't apologize for it. The best moment is "Slowly," which earns the title. Two Canadians, one of them an Indigenous-Mi'kmaw vocalist-drummer, the other a multi-instrumentalist who plays bass-pedals while soloing — and a nineteen-minute title track about an interstellar war on a planet called Karagon. The ambition would be embarrassing if the playing weren't this committed. Rush is the obvious comparison, also Mastodon if you stretch; what's surprising is how much room they leave for actual songwriting. Limited neon-yellow and neon-green pressings have already started moving on Discogs; the standard black isn't the safer bet here, it's the boring one. 加拿大 Oshawa 的雙人——Cody Bowles（鼓 + 主唱，Mi'kmaw 原住民身份）和 Kevin Comeau（吉他 + 貝斯 + 鍵盤，邊獨奏邊踩 bass-pedal 那種）。第三張正式專輯。
