Daniel Monkman, the Anishinaabe musician behind Zoon, calls the sound "moccasin-gaze" — the wall-of-noise of shoegaze wrapped in Indigenous memory and tape hiss. This third album refuses to flinch from its subjects: heartbreak, relapse, racial trauma, the slow work of putting a self back together. The title comes from a school in East Selkirk, Manitoba, optimistically named, where Monkman, one of the only Native students, weathered racism with early-2000s pop radio piped through headphones as his single refuge. What's quietly devastating here is the reversal: he takes the thing he once hid inside and rebuilds it as armor. The lead single, "One Too Many Nights" (featuring Sam Jr.), already sands a wound down to something like light. The title does double duty: fifty-five years at the keyboard together, and, as it happens, fifty-five tracks. Twenty-five are freshly recorded in 2025, several issued for the first time anywhere; thirty are drawn from an archive that runs from 1970 to 2024. The most quietly radical gesture isn't nostalgia — it's the sisters circling back to composers they, too, had let slip from view: Margaret Bonds, Marie Jaëll, Hélène de Montgeroult, names that sit unembarrassed beside the Ravel and the Glass. For her seventieth birthday Beamish declines the obvious move — a survey of her own catalogue — and goes back instead to where she started, the viola. The programme is thick with family and friends: both sons contribute a piece, her daughter both plays and composes, and a handful of longtime collaborators fill out the room. The effect is less commemorative album than well-thumbed family photograph, warmth running ahead of ambition. In her hands the viola has always been as much an identity as an instrument, the alto voice that declines the spotlight, and the record trades on exactly that reticence. Call it a prequel to the ensemble's 2024 Hamburg symphonies: six earlier works, written between 1755 and 1758, from C.P.E. Bach's Berlin years. Świątkiewicz makes one consequential decision — to use the original scoring for strings and harpsichord alone, before the wind parts were grafted on later — and the symphonies promptly reveal their chamber-music skeletons, lean and quick and translucent. It is the first time the set has been gathered complete in its original form. The second of old Bach's sons spent posterity wedged between his father and Haydn, neither fully Baroque nor quite Classical; here he gets a beam of light to himself. The Scottish trumpeter returns to an idea he last chased in 2008, when the original Stramash fused the melodic marrow of Scottish folk with the harmonic appetite of jazz. Eighteen years on, the sequel arrives on his own Gadgemo label with a small army — pipes, fiddles, cello, saxophone, a rhythm section drawn from the Scottish scene. The pleasure here isn't the soloist stepping out front; it's the sound of the whole ensemble colliding, which is what the word stramash means in the first place: an uproar, a glorious din. A reunion record usually trades on sentiment. The New Zealand trio's second album, on the storied Flying Nun, written mostly while frontman Kane Strang spent a month house-sitting in West Auckland and, for the first time, fooling seriously with alternate tunings. The dynamic range is wide on purpose: their heaviest and their softest songs both live among these eleven tracks, circling the particular vertigo of having no roots in the ground. Where the debut, 2023's Spiel, kept to a narrower band, Prime Corner pushes the loud and the quiet further apart. The Flying Nun melodic instinct is intact — that jangle never quite leaves the label's DNA — but there's a new unease running underneath it, the sound of a band testing how far it can drift. 紐西蘭三人組的第二張，掛在傳奇廠牌 Flying Nun 名下。主創 Kane Strang 在西奧克蘭替人看房子的一個月裡寫完，第一次認真擺弄 alternate tuning。專輯動態拉得很開——他們最重和最輕的歌都在這 11 首裡，唱的是「沒有根」的那種漂浮感。

A Kobe singer-songwriter, born 1997, with his second album — ten songs, out June 17 — following last year's 野原では海の話を. The title translates to something like "the animal that got better," carrying the same wry, self-deprecating tenderness as the music beneath it. This is the corner of Japanese independent songwriting that feels no urge to ingratiate: small voice, unforced phrasing, hooks lodged in the lines rather than the choruses. Worth flagging before it formally arrives, partly because artists working at this volume tend to be the ones you only realize you missed several years too late. File under: quiet now, harder to ignore later. 神戶出身、1997 年生的創作歌手，第二張專輯，10 曲，6 月 17 日發行。繼 2025 年《野原では海の話を》之後，這張《變好的動物》帶著一股自嘲又溫柔的勁。日系獨立裡少見的那種不急著討好的寫法，值得在它正式上架前先記一筆。
