Alexandra Drewchin started writing her sixth album as Eartheater about three months after her daughter, Nova, was born; the record closes with a track carrying the baby's name. Dave Sitek co-produces most of it, Nosaj Thing turns up elsewhere, and the only vocal guest is Oklou, saved for the tenth track, "Fast Asleep." "Paradise Rains" concerns the family farm she hadn't seen in twenty years and eventually bought back; she has said she conceived her daughter the day she first returned to it. The tracklist kept moving too: announced in May with "Eyes of a Dove" up front, the finished album opens with "Malka Moma" instead, so she was evidently adjusting the front door until the last minute. She calls the record a product of the throes and blisses of new motherhood, and the sequencing bears her out — softest at the close. A metallic-silver vinyl edition, numbered to 1,000, comes with a 24-by-36 poster. The bassline on the title track is the one reviewers keep pointing at, and fairly: Jamie-Lee Culver plays it like a lead instrument while the guitars keep to the shadows. Mouth Ulcers formed in London in 2025, out of a studio experiment that was never meant to become a band, and within a year Lauren Laverne, Chris Hawkins, and Steve Lamacq were all playing them on 6 Music. Zak Watson sings "Prevail" alone; on "Western Horror Story" he trades lines with guitarist Josephine Rose. Their first run of shows sold out across the UK and the Netherlands. Luluc — Sweet Thief

Ten songs in twenty-six and a half minutes: Luluc still write as if tape were expensive. The Melbourne-born, US-based duo spent Christmas 2024 at J Mascis's family home, and the visit had consequences — wherever this album has percussion, it is Mascis playing it, the loudest guitarist of his generation keeping gentle time in somebody else's folk songs. The title comes from a line in a Shakespeare sonnet, held up as a mirror for a world where beauty and taking coexist. "Dopamine Slot Machine" is the tell: a title from the attention economy set against nylon-soft playing, with a muted saxophone hidden in the bridge. They flew home to Australia in January 2025, landing on inauguration day; the songs were conceived during that year away and recorded back on the East Coast. 二〇二四年聖誕，這對駐美的墨爾本二人組借住在 J Mascis 家過節。結果是：新專輯裡凡有打擊樂的地方，全由 Dinosaur Jr 的主腦來敲。這大概是本週最反差的客串名單——電吉他轟鳴的代言人，在別人的民謠專輯裡安安靜靜打鼓。標題 Sweet Thief 出自莎士比亞十四行詩，用來照一個美與掠奪並存的世界；〈Dopamine Slot Machine〉這種曲名放在木吉他民謠裡本身就夠刺，橋段還藏了一段悶音薩克斯。十首歌只有二十六分半，和前作《Diamonds》一樣惜時如金。七月二十二日布魯克林 Union Pool 有專場。
Bruno Heinen's The W — Mikrokosmos

Bartók wrote Mikrokosmos as a teaching manual for his own son; Bruno Heinen learned piano from those same books as a child in London. Now a jazz-piano professor at Trinity Laban, he has taken cells from Book Six and rebuilt them into a suite for his quartet The W, with lyrics assembled from Bartók's own recorded remarks, so the composer ends up singing back at his exercises. One track is called "To the Devil with Exercises," which suggests Heinen's memories of practice are not entirely fond. Heidi Vogel, the Cinematic Orchestra's voice for fifteen years, sings; Gene Calderazzo, whose CV runs from Pharoah Sanders to Radiohead, drums. Heinen studied with John Taylor, Fred Hersch, and György Kurtág, and the arrangements carry that lineage's exactness. Jazzwise called it "spooky and gorgeous in equal measure." Halévy — La Juive (Live at Oper Frankfurt)

John Osborn once recorded a tribute album to Gilbert Duprez, the tenor who defined French grand opera, and somehow left out Éléazar in La Juive, the role Duprez created in 1835. This live set from Oper Frankfurt completes the homework. Halévy's opera was once among the most performed in Europe, and Wagner admired it; the Third Reich swept it from German stages, and it never fully returned. On video this is only the second complete production ever captured, after Vienna in 1999. Henrik Nánási conducts, and Ambur Braid's Rachel draws praise for the dark grain of her lower register. The staging was booed on opening night amid the cheering, usually the mark of a production with opinions. Recorded live in July 2024. Another Planet (Phiik & Lungs) & steel tipped dove — People Are Not Your Friends

Steel tipped dove has recorded New York rap out of the same second-floor Brooklyn walk-up for over fifteen years, and this album sounds like the building: rusted, warm, full of neighbors. Phiik and Lungs split the rapping like mismatched movers, Lungs plowing straight through bar lines while Phiik darts around the points his partner flattens. AKAI SOLO, ShrapKnel, and Fatboi Sharif drop by; the lyrics find room for Jeff Bezos headlining an EDM festival. The closer is titled "Actually Good At Rapping," a claim the preceding twelve tracks have already notarized. Bandcamp only for now, which rather suits the album title. 收尾曲名叫〈Actually Good At Rapping〉：說唱確實好。十三軌下來你大概會同意這個自我鑑定。長島雙人組 Phiik 和 Lungs 兩種 flow 咬合——Lungs 無視小節線一路平推，Phiik 靈巧地繞著他犁過的點位遊走；製作人 steel tipped dove 在布魯克林同一間二樓公寓錄音室待了十五年以上，聲音又鏽又暖。客串有同夥 AKAI SOLO、ShrapKnel 全員和 Fatboi Sharif，歌詞裡有 Jeff Bezos 壓軸 EDM 音樂節這種畫面。Apple 和 Spotify 都沒上架，Bandcamp 是唯一入口，倒也符合專輯名的社交態度。
睡眠船 (Suiminsen) — ベランダ紀行

The title translates as "Veranda Travelogue," which is honest advertising: this is psychedelia that never leaves the apartment. Suiminsen (the name means "sleeping boat") are a Tokyo trio formed in 2022, and this first full album arrived three days after they played their first-ever headline show, at Shimokitazawa's mona records on June 21. A Tower Records critic described the effect well: instead of launching you to another world, the record slightly lowers the gravity where you already stand. The opener "Mado no soto de wa" is an instrumental; the closer reprises "Blue Light" in a children's-broadcast arrangement; all twelve tracks are self-produced. Released June 24 on their own Sleeping Boat imprint, with the CD pushed hard by diskunion Kichijoji. 東京三人組睡眠船，成團四年，六月二十一日才在下北澤 mona records 辦了第一場專場——三天後，首張全長專輯上線。標題《陽臺紀行》把格局說得很誠實：一趟不出陽臺的旅行。Tower Records 的樂評形容得準：這種迷幻並非把你發射到別的世界，只是把你站的地方重力調低一點。開場曲〈窓の外では〉是器樂，收尾一首附上「みんなのうた版」的〈ブルーライト〉，十二首全部自己製作。二〇二三年在選秀企劃 S.W.I.M. 拿過 mona records 獎，二〇二四年和傳奇夢幻流行樂團 sugar plant 同過臺。CD 版被 diskunion 吉祥寺當作力推新品。
asamisimasa & Thomas Meadowcroft — Love Songs Without Subjects

The only lyric is one sentence out of Lacan: love means giving what you do not have to someone who does not want it. The Norwegian ensemble asamisimasa play and sing it for forty-two minutes over a lament bass circling a four-bar sequence, while other people's love songs surface in pairs — Purcell's Dido beside "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World," "Michelle" beside "My Funny Valentine," all steeped in analogue tape clutter. Composer Thomas Meadowcroft is an Australian in Berlin; the singer is Ditte Marie Bræin.
