The band is called Nu Jazz; the album is called Un Jazz; both names turn out to be sincere. Six musicians drawn from the deeper end of New York's underground — the drummer keeps time in a hardcore band, the trumpeter moonlights in something called Trap Music Orchestra — assemble the kind of hybrid that machines are now very good at faking, and they do it the analog way: everyone in one room, the lights more or less off, nature taking its messy course. The lead single, "369," is a useful test case, the trumpet and a modular synth circling each other like two people who have not decided whether they are flirting or fighting. What keeps it from novelty is how much the players clearly like one another; the record has the loose, forgiving air of a jam that happens to be going well, and it lands its wildest turns precisely because nobody seems to be reaching for them. the Black Drumset — Friends in Dark Places

Despite the rhythm-section name, the Black Drumset is one person, a musician named Wiley, and the record is less a groove than a slow psychedelic drift. "The Ice Melted, We Had to Swim" carries its climate grief lightly, more shrug than sermon; the album's longest track, "Moment, Moment, Moment, Moment," is content to be an instrumental and never apologizes for it. The closer, "Open Flames," is the reason to stay — it catches at the start and burns at an even temperature to the end, the rare solo jam that sounds like company rather than isolation. 名字叫「黑色鼓組」，其實只有 Wiley 一個人，一場慢速的迷幻漂流，鼓點退到很後面。〈The Ice Melted, We Had to Swim〉把氣候的哀傷講得很輕，聳肩多過說教；全片最長的〈Moment, Moment, Moment, Moment〉安於當一首器樂，也不道歉。留到最後的理由是壓軸〈Open Flames〉：開頭就抓住你，火候一路穩住不飄，是少見的、聽起來像有人作伴而非獨處的個人即興。

James Ehnes / Tessa Lark / Paul Neubauer 等 — Dvořák: String Quintets

Seattle Chamber Music Society has started a label, and for its opening gambit the society's artistic director, the violinist James Ehnes, has rounded up a room's worth of friends — Tessa Lark, Paul Neubauer, Edward Arron among them — to play the second and third Dvořák quintets. The quiet pleasure here is a piece of musical bookkeeping: the Intermezzo that Dvořák cut from the 1875 quintet, which he later tidied up and published on its own as the B-major Nocturne, restored to the spot it was evicted from. It is the sound of an ad-hoc ensemble discovering, in real time, that it likes being an ensemble. 西雅圖室內樂協會自辦了廠牌，開張頭幾張裡，由協會藝術總監、小提琴家 James Ehnes 拉來一屋子朋友（Tessa Lark、Paul Neubauer、Edward Arron⋯）合奏德弗札克第二、第三號弦樂五重奏。最耐人尋味的是一筆舊帳：德弗札克當年從第二號裡刪掉、後來改成 B 大調《夜曲》單獨出版的那段間奏，這回被放回它原本被趕出去的位置。整張聽下來，像一群臨時湊起來的人，邊拉邊發現自己其實喜歡當一個樂團。想在古典裡聽點故事的，這張值得。
