Bruckner wrote the Adagio of his Seventh in the shadow of Wagner, whom he worshipped, and when Wagner died partway through the writing the movement turned into a funeral, its coda scored for a quartet of Wagner tubas laid out like pallbearers. Deutsche Grammophon has now issued a 2005 Verbier performance under Michael Tilson Thomas, who died last year, which folds the elegy in half: a piece written to mourn one man, played by a festival orchestra of students and young professionals, released as a farewell to the conductor who led them. The band's youth is audible, and not as a flaw. There is a faint overreach in the big brass climaxes, a sense of players meeting music older and heavier than they are, that a more finished orchestra would have sanded down. Tilson Thomas lets the Adagio take all the time it wants. Bandcamp made this its album of the day, and the word that stuck was "dubby": sub-bass with the lights off, the swing of Detroit and UK dance music, everything mixed with an almost clinical clarity. leo builds his tracks out of the debris of sixteen-step drum-machine loops and basses that pace back and forth between two notes, then works them over by hand until the club they belong to stops being obvious. sachi's mirror is Shaina Pan, an Oakland violinist who has hidden the violin where you can't quite find it. On Constellation Tatsu, a label that has spent a decade on precisely this kind of soft-focus electronics, she dissolves the instrument into synthetic haze and lets the record move by breath instead of melody. The title doubles as the method. Played quietly and late, it works like someone thinking out loud in the next room. sachi's mirror 是奧克蘭小提琴手 Shaina Pan 的個人計畫。專輯名〈用另一種方式說話〉正好就是方法：她把小提琴藏起來，用氣口和留白代替旋律。廠牌 Constellation Tatsu 是舊金山灣區的磁帶氛圍名廠，一貫做這種柔焦電子。小提琴被溶進合成器的霧裡，整張很輕，像一個人在隔壁房間自言自語。夜裡把音量開到很小最對，安靜到考驗耐性，耐得住的人會一直循環。

The Trashcan Sinatras have been making jangle records in Kilmarnock since 1990, unhurriedly, and Ever The Optimist is their seventh, arriving a full decade after the last. A band that patient earns the right to a song called "Games For The ZX Spectrum," named for the rubber-keyed British home computer a certain generation of Scottish teenagers learned to type on. The guest list is a small map of literate British pop: Tracyanne Campbell of Camera Obscura sings on "Bad Husband," Green Gartside of Scritti Politti on "Hold On To Today." They pressed the vinyl in bird colors, goldfinch and kingfisher and raven, and closed the record with "Birds I Couldn't Identify," which is either a confession or a mission statement. The guitars still chime exactly as they used to. 蘇格蘭 Kilmarnock 的 jangle 老團，1990 年以《Cake》出道，這張《Ever The Optimist》是第七張錄音室專輯，也是睽違十年的新作。老團回來一點不慌：〈Games For The ZX Spectrum〉的曲名，直接指向 1980 年代英國那臺橡膠鍵盤的家用電腦，一整代人的童年。客座名單也講究，〈Bad Husband〉找了 Camera Obscura 的 Tracyanne Campbell，〈Hold On To Today〉找了 Scritti Politti 的 Green Gartside。黑膠按鳥的顏色壓了好幾色（金翅雀金、翠鳥藍、渡鴉黑），末曲乾脆叫〈Birds I Couldn't Identify〉。三十多年過去，那把吉他該亮還是亮。

The title is a full sentence, and a slightly deflated one; the view, it turns out, wasn't what the climb had promised. DICE are from Perth, and for this record they flew to East West in Hollywood, hired Joe Chiccarelli (the Strokes, the White Stripes) and pulled in Jay Watson of Tame Impala, then cut most of it live. It wears its 2010s indie-rock affection openly. The best track, "Call Me For A Good Time," smears Watson's eighties-Los-Angeles synths over a late-night pulse; elsewhere they yank the keyboards out entirely to keep four people audibly in one room. 澳洲珀斯的 indie-rock 樂團 DICE。這張很捨得下本：飛去好萊塢的 East West Studios 現場錄，製作人請了拿過 11 座葛萊美、做過 The Strokes 與 The White Stripes 的 Joe Chiccarelli，再加上 Tame Impala 的 Jay Watson 補製作。聲音是 2010 年代 indie rock 的那股勁，體育館級的副歌配上 DIY 車庫吉他。〈Call Me For A Good Time〉鋪了 Jay Watson 那層八〇年代洛杉磯合成器；〈Echo〉〈Daydream〉則刻意把鍵盤抽掉，只留四個人在一個房間裡的火。名字很長，野心也沒有要藏。

Here is a collaboration nobody requested and plenty of people should hear: the English vocal octet VOCES8 and Ringmasters, the reigning Swedish barbershop champions, in one room at the VOCES8 Centre. The barbershop "ring," that extra overtone that blooms when four voices lock, keeps rubbing against choral blend in a way that threatens to clash and never does. Eric Whitacre shows up to conduct his own Lux Aurumque.
