Ishiwaka's Songbook series turns ten this year, and he marks the anniversary by laying down his sticks. On the seventh installment he plays piano throughout, with Manami Kakudo singing beside him — the two recorded live in the same room, at the same time, abandoning the overdub-heavy method of earlier volumes. What's left is the sound of two people listening to each other with nowhere to hide. Guests appear exactly twice: Niran Dasika's trumpet on "Yoma," Shuta Nishida's gut-string guitar on "October Chorale." The closing track is a re-recording of "Asa," the song the two wrote together more than a decade ago, the one that started the whole series. Ten years of work, ending on its own first sentence. Somi's first album of original material in six years was recorded in four cities — Dakar, Lagos, Paris, New York — and the geography shows less than the grief does; she has said she wrote these songs while losing many people. The structural anchors are two spoken interludes, "Mama on Blooming" and "Mama on Tradition," a mother's voice holding up the thirteen tracks around it the way load-bearing walls hold a house. The Cavemen, the Nigerian highlife duo, drop into "Sometimes Love," and Lakecia Benjamin's saxophone runs through "So You Want To Be A Woman." The title asks a question the record circles without quite answering. Bassist Martin Rude painted one canvas for this album, and it takes all four faces of the double-LP gatefold to see it whole. Fitting, since the music works the same way: 79 minutes, six long improvisations arranged after the stages of the alchemical Magnum Opus, from "Nigredo" to "The Vermillion Quintessence." The trio is Danish psych royalty — Causa Sui's drummer, Papir's guitarist, Rude on bass — with Jonas Munk engineering. Luke Temple calls his fourth album under this alias "music to do other things by," which undersells how carefully it's built. Thirteen mostly instrumental tracks: the opener "Soft Reminder" is a wobbly organ line committed to a four-track with a small Casio, and "Soup Song" loops its organ figure until Terry Riley's A Rainbow in Curved Air comes into view. The confession is hidden in "Ice Bath," one of the few vocal moments: "It slowed me down / That's what I needed." An album about deceleration that practices what it preaches. Luke Temple 化名項目的第四張，十三曲幾乎全器樂。他自己給的定位很誠實：music to do other things by，拿來墊在生活底下的音樂。開場「Soft Reminder」是四軌機加一臺小卡西歐錄的風琴線；「Soup Song」的循環風琴被廠牌文案直接點名 Terry Riley《A Rainbow in Curved Air》。少數有人聲的「Ice Bath」唱了一句：它讓我慢下來，這正是我需要的。
