The cycle has twenty songs. This release has twenty-six tracks, and the discrepancy is the whole reason to hear it. Nigl recites Wilhelm Müller's Prologue and Epilogue, the framing verses Schubert never set, along with three poems Schubert simply passed over, so that the miller's story arrives with its narrator restored and its irony intact. The practice has a precedent: the Liederspiel evenings of Berlin salons in the 1820s, where recitation and song alternated as a matter of course. What the square piano does to the balance is more startling than the spoken text. Withum's instrument cannot flood a room, so the voice sits forward by default rather than by engineering, and the accompaniment turns into something closer to a companion muttering than a bed of sound. The brook figuration in the early songs loses its glassy evenness and picks up a wooden knock. Nigl has been circling this repertoire for years, with Olga Pashchenko on Vanitas and Echo, and with Gergelyfi on last year's Mozart clavichord disc. Recorded around 2025; the label has not said where. Charlie Martin and Will Taylor came into sessions in Nashville and Asheville last autumn with the instrumentals finished and the lyrics unwritten, which is either a discipline or a dare depending on the day. The 2024 double album ran fifty-three minutes and let you hear Martin crying; this one runs thirty-seven across twelve songs and lets you hear a drum machine sitting very still. On "Junk," a synth warble slides in around the midpoint and Taylor starts repeating I don't know why until the phrase wears smooth. "Way Down" is three or four acoustic chords, a lap steel that seems half asleep, and a Wurlitzer you notice only after it stops. Critical reception has been unusually split — Paste filed a B+, Far Out filed a 2 out of 10, and both were describing the same brevity. 去年秋天在 Nashville 與 Asheville 分幾次錄完，跟老搭檔 Bennett Littlejohn 一起掛製作。這次的做法比較狠：器樂 demo 全部做完才進錄音室，歌詞一個字都沒寫，人到了現場才開始寫。

The account on the Bandcamp page is unusually plain about method. She had a bad winter, quit smoking, and then found she could not start anything. What broke the stall was fostering two puppies from the local animal shelter: no sleep, no free hours, and somehow nine songs. Track seven is called "Milo," after the one she ended up keeping. The production is dry and close in a way that recalls mid-nineties dream pop rather than the reverb maximalism the genre drifted into, and the vocals are mixed nearly at conversational distance. Whether the record would exist without the dogs is not a question anyone can answer, including her. 她在 Bandcamp 上把來龍去脈寫得很白：那個冬天很糟，戒菸之後什麼都動不了。轉折是她去本地動物收容所帶回兩隻寄養幼犬，睡不成覺、時間全被吃掉，反而把九首歌做完了。第七軌就叫〈Milo〉，那隻最後正式留下來了。

The credits on this quartet's video for "Kemono" list, in order, who wrote it, who recorded and mixed and mastered it, who tuned the drums, and who tuned the bass. Two separate people for the tuning. That fastidiousness is audible on the debut album: Rika Nakanishi's guitar keeps a specific dull ring across thirteen tracks, and when she moves from half-speaking to full shout on "Saigo no Hanazoku" nothing else in the mix moves with her. Three of the thirteen are titled "Entrance 1," "Entrance 2" and "Entrance 3," placed as gates rather than interludes, which makes the running order load-bearing. 首張全長專輯，十三首。其中三首的曲名是〈入口一〉〈入口二〉〈入口三〉。它們不是間奏，比較像閘門——你走過去了，才知道前面那幾首算是同一段。第一張專輯就敢把曲序當結構用，這件事我願意單獨記一筆。

Six tracks, several of them reworks of singles the band put out earlier this year, assembled into something that behaves like a record. On "By Your Side" a guitar drags itself across a Jersey club vocal chop, and the collision is funnier and more convincing than the description suggests. Three official videos in six months, for a band that calls its own genre POP MUSiiiiiiiiiC. 半年之內在官方頻道發了三支 MV（〈俄雨〉五月、〈Outsider〉六月、〈オルタナタイMU〉八月），然後把這半年的單曲重新編過，湊成六軌的 EP。最後那支跟 EP 同一天上架，也正好是 EP 的開場曲。

Kit Downes plays pipe organ on two tracks here, the eighth and the tenth, and since the tenth closes the record he effectively gets the last word on an album with thirteen musicians on it. "Into the Woods, 3 Weary Calls" thins out until the pitches stop behaving like an instrument at all. Sun Chung, who produced for ECM before starting this label alone in late 2020, has built the sequence so the loud moment comes early: on "Three Years Later," Andrew Cyrille lays an Afro-Caribbean pattern on cowbell and tom under Wadada Leo Smith's trumpet and Qasim Naqvi's modular electronics, and then nobody raises their voice again. Sungjae Son's contribution is scored for tenor saxophone, bass clarinet and pump organ, which is a strange and good list. All profits from sales, including additional fan contributions, go to the International Red Cross. Recorded, per the credits, in 2026, various locations. The Kyoto producer's first record for the London label, and the physical edition is not pressed but lathe-cut to order, one at a time, stamped by hand, cut off at the end of August with no repress. The title track is whistle house, a genre I had assumed died with a specific decade, given a rap verse by longtime collaborator MFS. Four songs, twelve minutes, released by a small label because the artist had asked them to before she died. The selection is hers; so is the note explaining it, which names depersonalisation as the subject. She usually worked alone with a guitar, and these are the songs she wanted grouped together. The label's page carries a second statement, written by her former partner with her family's consent, about finishing the release. It is a short record and it does not ask to be treated as anything larger than what it is. 四首，十二分鐘。
