The self-teaching is only half of it. Hornyak has said he became preoccupied with not singing, which is an odd thing for someone making a folk-adjacent record to decide, and he solved it by outsourcing. He asked Olivia O of Lowertown to sing on the title track, then took her vocal apart and scattered the pieces across all nine songs, so that the human voice arrives as texture rather than as a person addressing you. The rest of the singing began as nonsense mouth-sounds, with words allowed to settle in afterwards wherever they fit. "ili" is built entirely from flute samples. "Vai" is his attempt at writing a Yann Tiersen film cue, a pizzicato cello loop going out and coming back in. Twenty-nine minutes, issued on a transparent pink cassette, sleeve painted by Hornyak. The Road and the animated film of When The Wind Blows are the two sources he names, which tells you the weather forecast. An opera mezzo singing Piazzolla is a proposition that goes wrong more often than it goes right, usually because the voice arrives with more equipment than the material can carry. Mack, an Argentine singer who has spent her career abroad, keeps the bandoneón in front and steps back half a pace, and the arrangements — all of them by JP Jofre, who also slips in one of his own pieces — are built for a quintet rather than a pit. The programme runs through "Vuelvo al sur," "Balada para un loco," "Oblivion," and "Yo soy María" from the 1968 tango operita María de Buenos Aires, so the diaspora reading is baked in before anyone opens their mouth. Forty-eight minutes. Fifty-three minutes and nineteen seconds, one piece, no seams to hide behind. James Weeks, who founded the vocal group EXAUDI, wrote it as a response to The Living Mountain, Nan Shepherd's book about walking in the Cairngorms, and the setting is severe in a way that suits the source: Siwan Rhys plays a kind of open stillness at the piano, ringed by an electronic drone that never quite resolves into an accompaniment, while Lucy Goddard speaks Shepherd's sentences instead of singing them. Presto had one CD left when I checked. It is not a record you can put on underneath something else, and it does not reward being taken in instalments. 五十三分十九秒，整張只有一首曲子。作曲的 James Weeks 是人聲團 EXAUDI 的創辦人，這件作品回應的是蘇格蘭作家 Nan Shepherd 寫凱恩戈姆山的散文《The Living Mountain》。分工很清楚：Siwan Rhys 的鋼琴彈的是空闊的靜止，外圍裹一圈電子持續音；Lucy Goddard 不唱，她念 Shepherd 的文字。實體只有 CD，Presto 上核實時只剩一張。這種碟不適合當背景，也不適合分段聽。沒有那個心情就別開，改天再說。

The band lists its own ancestry on the sleeve — Sarah, Creation, Elefant, the Field Mice, St Christopher — which is a bold thing to do when you are handing the reader a ruler and asking to be measured. Minneapolis, ten songs, twenty-six minutes and forty-seven seconds, recorded at Softcult Studios with Matt Castore, who has been with them a while. The current line-up settled in 2023 and went straight into demos; the album itself took from the summer of 2024 to the summer of 2026 to finish, which is a long time to spend on twenty-six minutes of jangle. Three pairs of hands at the desk, which is unusual for a debut on an independent label: Alex Maas of the Black Angels produced alongside Dominic Mena, Jim Eno of Spoon was handed tracks two, four, five and twelve to mix, and Howie Weinberg mastered. Mena started the project in a Phoenix bedroom and moved it to Austin in 2019, where it grew into a four-piece. Fourteen songs, three of them under ninety seconds — "Inside Out" at 1:27, "Never Gonna Happen" at 0:51, "Silent Vault" at 0:59 — which reads less like sequencing strategy than like a band that knew when an idea had finished. Two vinyl variants, two hundred copies each. Nearly every title here is a grid reference. "Howardian Undulations" is the rolling road that takes you to Castle Howard; "The Blakey Lions" salutes Back Door, the jazz-rock trio who started out at the Lion Inn up on Blakey Ridge; elsewhere there is the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, the early-warning station at RAF Fylingdales, and the moorland stone crosses, one of which is called Fat Betty. Crosland leads on electric bass with Steve Waterman's trumpet circling above him, Steve Lodder on piano, Chris Allard on guitar and Nic France on drums — twelve pieces, sixty-six minutes, and the sort of unhurried playing that comes from a band that knows the material cold. Didirri turns up twice on this record: once among the players, and again behind the camera for the video to "Unlearning Of Love," the eighth of ten songs. That kind of double credit usually signals a closed circle, and the album does have the feel of something made among friends in Naarm/Melbourne — written, composed and sung by Wise, produced by Rob Muinos, everyone else guesting. The asterisk in the title is a footnote that the sleeve then supplies: bad things feel good, with the exception of a very long list of things. Thirty-seven minutes, pressed on blood-orange regrind, with a hundred Bandcamp copies carrying a signed lino print. 墨爾本唱作人的第二張，十首，三十七分四十秒。標題末尾那個星號是有意留的假腳註，而且註文她自己補上了：壞事讓人舒服，除了很長很長一串例外。這一句把標題拆了臺，也定了整張的語氣。詞曲演唱都由 Wise 一個人完成，Rob Muinos 製作，客席裡有一位是澳洲唱作人 Didirri——他不只在碟裡演奏，第八軌〈Unlearning Of Love〉的影像也是他導的。黑膠壓在 Blood Orange 回收料上，Bandcamp 獨佔版另附一張手工麻膠版畫，簽名編號，限一百張。

Four songs, twelve minutes and fifty-one seconds, out of San José. The full stop after the band name is registered, not a typo. Their drummer Diego Cordero recorded, mixed, mastered and produced the whole thing at Buen Fantasma Estudio between October 2025 and May 2026 — except "Pararrayos," written by the guitarist and taped in a friend's house, the one track the five of them didn't put their names to together. 哥斯大黎加聖荷西的五人編制，四首，十二分五十一秒。團名後面那個句點是註冊進去的，不是誰打錯字。全碟由鼓手 Diego Cordero 在 Buen Fantasma Estudio 一手錄混母帶，工期從二〇二五年十月拉到二〇二六年五月——七個月做四首歌。唯一的例外是〈Pararrayos〉，作曲掛在吉他手 Sebastián Álvarez 名下，錄音混音的地點寫的是「Amanda 與 Sebastián 家裡」，也是全碟唯一沒有掛集體署名的一首。再聽兩遍再說吧。
