The title is a joke that takes a second to land. Elgar was knighted in 1904, Barbirolli in 1949; Britten turned a knighthood down and waited until 1976, when he became the first composer ever raised to the peerage and had roughly six months left to enjoy it. So the programme is bracketed by two Sirs and one holdout, and Siranossian plays the lot of them on a single instrument — a 1756 Gennaro Gagliano that used to belong to Barbirolli, who was a cellist for years before he ever stood in front of an orchestra. 先說標題這個玩笑。埃爾加 1904 年受封爵士，巴比羅利 1949 年受封，布瑞頓拒了爵位，一路等到 1976 年才受封終身貴族，是史上第一位進貴族院的作曲家，然後半年後就過世了。三個人，兩個 Sir，一個死不接受。Siranossian 把他們三個放進同一張碟，還用同一把琴拉完。

Chen Yi and Zhou Long were both born in 1953, both had their training interrupted, both ended up teaching in the United States, and both are now in their seventies with chamber catalogues that have never been recorded with much care. Yim taped these pieces at Notre Dame in April 2024 with both composers present, which is either a great advantage or a very particular kind of pressure. The opening piece is eleven minutes of unaccompanied violin doing four jobs at once; later a viola is asked to impersonate a xiao, and the movement headings say so out loud — Romance of Hsiao and Ch'in, Echoes of the Set Bells. Pentatone gave it a real hall and resisted padding it with reverb. As a case for these two as composers rather than as biography, it is the closest I've heard. 陳怡與周龍都生於 1953 年，都在該念書的年紀被打斷，後來都到了美國教書，如今都七十好幾。兩人的室內樂一直沒有被好好錄過，這張補上了。

Siavash Amini & Eugene Thacker — Songs for Sad Poets Vol. III

Three tracks, three poets, none of them alive and none of them cheerful: Hàn Mặc Tử, who founded Vietnam's Loạn school; João da Cruz e Sousa, the central figure of Brazilian Symbolism; Nikolaus Lenau, the Austrian who gave Weltschmerz a face. Thacker writes for chorus, Amini then works the chorus over until the words stop being words and the voices stop reading as voices. On the nineteen-minute Lenau piece the process turns oddly literal: the mass keeps almost settling into a syllable, then mislays it. Volume I appeared in 2022 on Hallow Ground. This one skips to III. Nobody involved offers an explanation and I have stopped waiting for one. 三軌，三位詩人，都死了，也都不快樂：越南「亂」派的創始人韓默子（Hàn Mặc Tử）、巴西象徵派的核心 João da Cruz e Sousa、把 Weltschmerz 寫成一種體質的奧地利人 Nikolaus Lenau。

His last full-length was a symphony. This one is fifteen tracks and seventy-odd minutes with two thirds of it under five minutes apiece — a composer who spent years thinking in single long arcs, suddenly filing by the piece. Several of these were already loose in the world: the Dia / Phonolydian single from 2022, Multiplay from 2023, which now sits at track two and gets a sequel at track nine. It plays like a drawer being emptied, and I mean that as a compliment. 上一張全長作品是 2022 年的交響曲《Telekinesis》。這張十五軌、七十幾分鐘，三分之二不到五分鐘一首。一個花了好幾年思考長弧線的人，忽然改成按件計算。

Gustav Berntsen spent weeks in London cutting up copies of Metro — the free paper commuters abandon on trains — and built the lyrics out of the pieces. He then took the songs to a studio in the Swedish woods and cut them live to twenty-four-track tape with a standing band. His debut, on Posh Isolation, was downtempo and half-hidden; this one opens its mouth. The influence list he volunteers looks preposterous written down — seventies fusion, Japanese noise-rock, anthemic grunge, outsider pop — and mostly survives contact with the room, particularly on Shit River, where a choir arrives and the whole thing tips. 歌詞的來源實在好笑。GB 本名 Gustav Berntsen，哥本哈根人，住在倫敦那陣子花了好幾週把地鐵站免費拿的《Metro》剪碎，再從碎片裡拼出整張碟的詞。剪貼寫詞十次有九次會寫成謎語，這張沒有，唱起來比首張直接得多。

The record ends on birdsong, a classical guitar and two couplets, and then it simply stops. Nine songs, three years of writing, a first full-length and a first for Merge, and the last thing she does with it is decline to sum anything up. What comes before is thicker than that ending implies. On Sarah Waiting in the Car, Matthew Herd's arrangement stacks saxophone, flugel horn, tenor horn, fiddle and violin behind a very plain guitar figure, so a small domestic scene ends up with an ensemble it never asked for. The titles work the same way — a hotel sink with clothes in it, a name, a parked car. Psych-folk is the shelf it goes on, fine, but what the record is actually about is scale, and how little of it a song requires. 把九首歌的標題抄下來，會得到一份場景清單：車裡等人的 Sarah、旅館洗手檯裡的衣服、一個叫 Louise 的名字。她很少寫概念，多半隻給地點跟人，剩下的留給編曲。

A Taipei band that has been putting demos online since 2022 and has finally made an EP: five songs, twenty minutes, digital only, out at midnight and played at a beach festival the same afternoon. Emo punk in the local sense, which runs warmer and considerably less sardonic than the American model. The English titles filed alongside the Chinese ones make no attempt to translate them — the song called 我愛的人, the one I love, goes out to the rest of the world as Stranger. 臺北團，2022 年 3 月開始在 StreetVoice 丟 demo，自稱新生代 emo punk，這是第一張 EP。

Three weeks old, and the only thing here that isn't left over from Friday. A German saxophonist's first record, thirteen tracks that keep changing size — solo, duo, trio, solo again — with three short interludes all called Airports scattered through, the first marked live and over six minutes, the other two barely ninety seconds each. The premise is the airport as the place where you are no longer where you were and not yet where you're going. Skinnarviksberget, named for the rock outcrop above the water in Stockholm, is the one I keep going back to, though I couldn't tell you yet whether that's the piece or just the name. 本期唯一一張不是週五留下來的，7 月 31 日就發了。德國薩克斯手的個人首作，脫胎自科隆 LOFT 錄音計畫，並拿了該計畫的評審獎。
