The title is the band’s own name with the letters shuffled, and it is not new: since the 1980s, moonriders have credited songs written collectively to “e.d morrison,” a person who does not exist and who has now been promoted to the cover. The record was made the way the byline implies, half of it cut live as a group, the rest contributed one song per member. What strikes me is how little the anniversary weighs on it. Track five is titled “Backstage Fright Rumba,” three minutes and four seconds of it, and it sounds like a band amused by its own nerves rather than a band posing for a plaque. Then the two pieces marked “Suite” open out, eight minutes and ten, and the amusement drains off into something patient and grey and rather beautiful. 先說標題。「e.d morrison」是把「moonriders」九個字母重新排一次的結果，一個不存在的人。八〇年代起，這個團只要遇上全員一起寫的曲子，作曲欄就填他的名字，一填就是四十個年頭。這次乾脆讓他當專輯名。

Most records are named after a place, a feeling, or one of the songs. This one is named after a duration: fifteen years of playing together, starting with a run of benefit concerts for The Jazz Gallery in New York, and this is the first time the three of them have put out a record under all three names. The writing is divided almost equally, three pieces from Threadgill, three from Iyer, two from Prieto, which is a fairly unusual arrangement for a group containing a composer of Threadgill’s stature and appetite. Iyer wrote “I Wanted a Map,” four minutes and forty-one seconds, and it is the one they filmed: Ryan Streber directed it in the room at Oktaven Audio in Mount Vernon where the album was made, so you can watch Threadgill switch from alto to flute and see exactly how far apart the three of them are standing. The longest thing here, “Fire City,” runs seven minutes and nineteen seconds and never once settles into a groove you could describe to somebody over the phone. Nineteen releases in, the orchestra’s own label has stopped bothering with discs; this Requiem exists as a download and a stream and nothing else. The engineering decision worth mentioning is the track listing. The Dies irae is broken into ten separately numbered pieces, IIa through IIj, which is finer slicing than almost anybody attempts, and then the same music returns at track eighteen for two minutes and fifteen seconds inside the Libera me, tagged as its own item. Whoever built the index understood the piece. Four soloists from four countries, seventy-five minutes, and a chorus that does not sound like it is being asked to be polite. 克里夫蘭管絃樂團自己開的廠牌發到第十九號，這一張連實體都不做了，只有高解析下載與串流。一個一百多年歷史的樂團，錄十九世紀最大聲的宗教作品，交出來的是一組檔案。

Sixty-one tracks, five discs, four hours and fifty-five minutes, all of it recorded live at the Hamburg festival that carries her name, and Argerich herself turns up on a minority of it. The best forty minutes belong to three Maiskys: Mischa on cello, his daughter Lily at the piano, his son Sascha on violin, working through Paul Juon’s Trio Miniatures and then a Rachmaninoff trio that runs thirteen minutes and fifty-seven seconds. Elsewhere there is an entire Chopin evening handed to former winners of the Warsaw competition, and, tucked into the fifth disc, Grażyna Bacewicz’s First Piano Quintet, twenty-five minutes of music that almost nobody programmes. Boxes this size are usually an act of bookkeeping. This one has a Presto in it that made me sit up. 六十一軌、五張碟、四小時五十五分，全部錄自漢堡那個掛她名字的音樂節。而她本人只出現在其中一部分：舒曼的《詩人之戀》伴奏、舒曼鋼琴五重奏、蕭邦與貝多芬各一首大提琴奏鳴曲。

Eight songs, and two of them sit next to each other in the middle at eight minutes fifty-two and nine minutes two, which means roughly four tenths of a record by a writer known for compression is spent in no hurry whatsoever. Whether that is nerve or self-indulgence depends on how you feel about “Follow The River” around the six-minute mark, and I have not decided. The strings on “Little Kids” were arranged by Sean O’Hagan of the High Llamas and played by the Stockholm Studio Orchestra, which explains the particular sweetness of that track and its refusal to resolve where you expect. The shortest song is three minutes twenty-seven. He is fifty next year, more or less, and appears to have decided that brevity was somebody else’s idea. 四年多沒出新作，回來只給八首歌，其中第四、第五首連著八分五十二秒與九分零二秒。換算下來，這位以精簡著稱的挪威寫歌人，把將近四成的專輯時間交給了兩首歌。

Eleven songs, none of them four minutes long, two of them tied at two minutes forty-three. The four met at a music conservatoire in Manchester and several of them graduated only last year, and the singer has said in interviews that Pavement and Wilco and Teenage Fanclub came to him via his parents, which is what a canon looks like once it has been in the house long enough to become furniture. They have a rule about not recording anything they cannot reproduce on a stage, and you can hear it: the record moves like a band that expects to have to do this again tomorrow night. 十一首歌，沒有一首滿四分鐘，最短的兩首並列在兩分四十三秒。曼徹斯特音樂學院認識的四個人，有幾位去年才畢業，成軍大約三年，最早只是聚在一起翻唱 folk 跟 skiffle。

Twenty years old this year, the Kyoto trio asked its audience which old song it should re-record and then honoured the result. “sister (2026 ver.)” runs six minutes forty-four, longer than anything else here by two and a half minutes, and then the album stops on “eddy,” two minutes thirty-six, as though somebody had unplugged the amp mid-thought. 京都的三人器樂團今年滿二十年，這是第十一張。井上（吉他）、山田（貝斯）、片木（鍵盤）各自帶曲子進來，鼓手請了橋本現輝與 fox capture plan 的井上司。
