The record opens with “Anthropology” at three minutes and nine seconds, which is roughly the tempo Parker liked and roughly nobody’s idea of a warm-up. Underneath the tenor saxophone there is a double bass, and underneath the double bass there is nothing: no drums, no piano, no chordal instrument of any kind for fifteen tracks. Twelve of those tracks are standards or jazz repertory, Monk’s “Introspection” and Shorter’s “Dance Cadaverous” and Mingus’s tribute to Ellington among them, and this is the first standards album either woman has made. Oh has put out seven albums of her own writing; Aldana, who won the Monk competition in 2013 and was the first woman to do it, has largely done the same. What the absent rhythm section exposes is how much of a standard is actually load-bearing. “Infinite” lasts one minute fifty-six. Nothing here runs past five. Octavio Paz published Piedra de sol in 1957: five hundred and eighty-four lines, the number of days in a Venus cycle on the Aztec calendar, and the poem ends with the same image it opens with, a crystal willow and a poplar of water. Talbot has kept the circle. The nineteenth section of his setting takes the text of the first section and gives it back, three minutes and nine seconds where the opening took five and a half, the same words arriving at a different weight. For seventy minutes the only instrument anywhere near the choir is Thomas Burritt’s marimba, which does not accompany so much as leave footprints for the voices to walk in. Section twelve is the long one at six minutes fifty-seven; section three is over in eighty-four seconds. The title and the sleeve both belong to Yoko Ono, whose 1971 work of that name the band licensed rather than alluded to, and having borrowed a conceptual piece about looking through an aperture they have built an album with the same shape: the title track appears as I at the top and II at the bottom, four and a half minutes in, five and fifty-two out. The longest song is called “Anaglypta,” seven minutes thirty-seven, named after the embossed wallpaper that has been going up in British hallways since the 1880s. Seventh albums do not usually come with that much wit still intact. 專輯名與封面都來自小野洋子一九七一年的同名作品，樂團去談了授權，直接拿來用。既然借的是一件關於「透過一個洞看出去」的觀唸作品，唱片就做成同樣的形狀：同名曲的 I 放在最前面，四分二十七秒；II 放在最後，五分五十二秒。

Banjo, lap steel, hurdy-gurdy, recorders, harmonica, melodica, three men, five tracks, half an hour. “Speedrone” runs six minutes fifty-two and consists largely of a banjo figure refusing to get off the hurdy-gurdy’s sustained note, and the fourth track is called “Alien Radigue,” which tells you these players know exactly which lineage they have wandered into. Eight tracks, four songs. “Un Espoir Pour…” appears four times over, original plus three remixes, and “Falling” twice, the second of those a demo from 2011 dropped into the running order at four minutes forty-eight, half a minute longer than the finished version it follows. The opener is a cover of Public Image Ltd’s “Poptones.” Noriko Sekiguchi has been making records under this name since 1992 and has never much cared whether a track sounded finished. 八首曲目，四首原曲。〈Un Espoir Pour…〉一首佔掉四軌：原版、Gaul Plus 混音、Le POiSON 混音短版、reihaimachi 混音。〈Falling〉佔兩軌，第二軌是二〇一一年的 demo，四分四十八秒，比前面那個正式版還長半分鐘。

Kasumi Hayano plays in the Tokyo hardcore bands KLONNS and 鏡; under the name 剤電 he sits alone at a synthesizer and makes seven pieces for what the label calls a midnight pool and imaginary tropical fish. The fourth, 青（em…）, lasts fifty-seven seconds and is the only one that does not settle into anything. Cassette, on a Taipei label. 早乃霞也的本職是東京硬核龐克：KLONNS、鏡、珠鬼，外加暗潮團 XIAN。「剤電」是他一個人坐在電子琴前做 New Age／Ambient 的計畫。廠牌文案說這七首是給午夜泳池和想像中的熱帶魚。

The album began as a scrap of tape from a rehearsal on a small-theatre tour: a pipa chord landing on a low guqin line, the colour Li Daiguo had been hunting for. Most of what followed he wrote on a guqin that Wu Na lent him, which is a peculiar way to make a record and audible in the result, since the instrument keeps behaving like a guest. Two tracks are straight improvisations between the two of them. The room was left in the recording, insects and all. Titles run to whole sentences in two languages: “a silver earring lost in the forest makes you realize you’re dreaming,” “sonic asteroid belt therapy.” The longest, seven minutes thirty-nine, is the one about data drifting off like incense smoke, and it is the track I would start with. 起點是一次小劇場巡演彩排時錄下的即興片段：琵琶和絃落在古琴低音上，那個音色正是李帶菓一直在找的東西。之後他以這段為基礎繼續寫，而且大部分曲子用的是巫娜借給他的那張琴。

Giordano wrote Marina in 1888 for the Sonzogno one-act competition, aged twenty-one. It lost. Cavalleria rusticana won a later edition of the same prize and went around the world; this one went into a drawer and stayed there for a hundred and thirty-eight years, until the Teatro Dal Verme in Milan staged it this year and Decca sent engineers to the premiere. Twenty-three tracks, most under three minutes, the longest at five minutes eight. It is early work and it sounds like early work, which is the interesting part: you can hear a young man reaching for the thing he would find six years later in Andrea Chénier. 一八八八年，Sonzogno 辦獨幕歌劇比賽。二十一歲的 Umberto Giordano 交了《Marina》，落選。同一個獎項後來讓《鄉村騎士》紅遍全世界，這一部進了抽屜，一躺一百三十八年。
