Hakushi Hasegawa — Honest Feeling Album

The cover, drawn by the manga artist George Asakura, shows Hasegawa frying okonomiyaki. That domestic calm is a feint. For their third album, and second on Brainfeeder, the Tokyo experimentalist assembled a live band called HaHa and The Hairpins, and the difference is physical: saxophone, percussion and gut guitar now absorb the impact that used to be pure processor. Fifteen tracks run without a seam, sliding from big-band jazz into industrial noise and out through J-pop, with a guest list that includes the VTuber Mito Tsukino, tofubeats credited as "Commentary," and the Korean songwriter Lee Lang reading text aloud. One song title is a full Kansai-dialect complaint about having to explain everything from one to ten. The Japanese edition comes with six thousand words of the artist's own liner notes, which feels about right for a record with this much to say. Listen to it whole; the sequencing is the argument. 長谷川白紙的第三張，日文原題《素直な気持ちアルバム》。過去他的音樂像一臺過熱的電腦，這次他組了支真樂隊「ハハとヘアピンズ」：薩克斯、打擊樂、吉他全是活人，機器的癲狂第一次有了體溫。客串名單跨次元——VTuber 月ノ美兎來唱歌，tofubeats 掛名「解說」，韓國創作人イ・ラン負責朗讀。十五首無縫連成一個故事，從 big band 爵士滑進工業噪音再滑回 J-Pop；先行曲〈窒息日記〉裡細井徳太郎的古典吉他，是全片最溫柔的一段錯位。我的建議：整張連聽，別跳曲。

The label copy reads like a case file: in the spring of 2025, Segall began hearing voices, calm at first, then screaming, "Get the band back together." He obeyed. Cronin, Kelly, Boye and Burrows convened, tracked nine songs live, and were done in thirty-two minutes of tape. Half the songs were written by all five heads at once, which you can hear in how the twin guitars argue rather than agree. Drag City points back to 2012's Slaughterhouse as the reference; the vocals, in the label's own words, are vinegar and sand. He put out a doom EP the same day, because of course he did. Sixth album, and the Los Angeles quartet has mostly stopped singing. Recorded at their Pumphouse studio in Topanga and mixed by frontman Miles Michaud, Sirenas drifts through track titles that move from Greek myth (Pasiphaé, Snakes of Hydra) to the California coastline (Pt. Conception). The band's stated influences do the explaining: The Durutti Column, Popol Vuh's Herzog scores, and Jacques Cousteau's The Silent World. Surf rock, six records in, has finally gone under the surface. 洛杉磯四人組第六張，幾乎全器樂。曲名從希臘神話（Pasiphaé、Snakes of Hydra）游到加州海角（Pt. Ninth album, titled Nine. The Chicago instrumental trio brought in Kurt Ballou to record and mix, and the seven tracks bore from "Borehole" down to a closer called "Seventh Seal," which is as close to a lyric as this band gets. Early reviews agree on the same point: no reinvention, just a trusted formula polished until it reflects. Twenty years in, that reads less like caution and more like craft. 第九張就叫《Nine》，連取名的力氣都省下來堆 riff。芝加哥器樂三人組找 Kurt Ballou 錄混，七首曲子從〈Borehole〉一路鑽到收尾的〈Seventh Seal〉。樂評的共識是：這班人二十年沒換配方，但把配方磨得比誰都亮。想入門的人從這張進去也不吃虧。

The week's consensus record: Album of the Week at The Quietus and Album of the Day at Bandcamp, in the same breath. Sunday is a classically trained violist from Lagos, now in north London, and Olùsìn, Yoruba for "worshippers," treats devotion as source material: field recordings from Lagos, massed vocal harmonies, spiritual percussion folded into ambient fabric. On "Edge" he stacks layers of Karplus-Strong plucked-string synthesis; on "Amen" a heavily accented vocal sample stands in for a church organ. Quiet music with a congregation inside it. 拉哥斯出身、古典科班的中提琴手，專輯名是約魯巴語「敬拜者」。他把非洲靈修傳統的打擊樂、人聲和聲與拉哥斯的田野錄音一起醃進 ambient：〈Amen〉用人聲採樣模擬教堂管風琴，〈Edge〉靠撥弦合成演算法一層層疊上去。同一週拿下 Quietus 本週專輯與 Bandcamp 當日專輯。今年到目前為止最好的 ambient 之一。

Adam Bałdych European Quartet — Endless

A drummerless quartet spanning four countries: Polish violin, Italian bandoneon, Swedish piano, French double bass. Bałdych, who also plays a Renaissance violin here, booked two January days at the Penderecki European Centre for Music in Lusławice and came out with eleven tracks, including a Satie Gnossienne tucked near the end. Presto called it prayer-like, shaped by silence and trust. The bandoneon's breathing is the record's real pulse. 波蘭小提琴、意大利班多鈕、瑞典鋼琴、法國低音提琴，四個國籍各帶一件樂器，沒有鼓手。錄音地點選在 Lusławice 的潘德列茨基歐洲音樂中心，兩天錄完十一首，中間還夾了一首 Satie 的〈Gnossienne〉。Presto 的形容是「靠沉默、信任與深度聆聽展開」。夜深人靜聽這張，班多鈕的呼吸聲比旋律更抓人。

Recorded live in October 2025 inside Vicenza's Teatro Olimpico, Palladio's theatre of 1585 and the oldest indoor stage still standing. Fischer imported a cast he had already run in on the Budapest stage, with Andrè Schuen's Giovanni against Luca Pisaroni's Leporello, a pairing one critic praised for its symbiotic sleaze.
