Three world premiere recordings, fifty-three minutes, and a chronology that runs backwards. Vista (2019) came last in her life and comes second here: twenty-six minutes in two movements, "Horizons" and "Targets," the second of which keeps aiming at something and declining to hit it. The Saarikoski Songs were written for Anu Komsi over the better part of a decade, originally for voice and piano; the five poems Saariaho chose concern the woodland near Pentti Saarikoski's house being cleared for apartment blocks, which is a small subject handled without any of the swelling one might expect. She signed the final double bar of the orchestration in January 2021 and was diagnosed with brain cancer days afterward. The record closes forty years earlier, with the Three Preludes of 1981 for soprano and organ, six minutes total, her only setting of biblical text and by some distance the strangest thing here — expressionist fragments rather than anything devotional. The organ was her own instrument in her twenties. Lassus wrote something north of eighty masses. Two of them are requiems, and neither can be attached to anyone's funeral, which leaves the music oddly unemployed. The four-part setting was printed in Paris in 1577; an abbey library in Augsburg holds a transposed manuscript copy for men's voices that carries a Dies irae the Paris edition never had. Here it runs thirteen minutes and twenty seconds, the longest track on the disc by a wide margin, and it arrives with the unhurried confidence of something that has been waiting four and a half centuries to be counted. The five-part Requiem, published in 1589, is the brighter of the two. Vox Luminis put it first and let the darker one follow. Lassus 寫過八十幾部彌撒，安魂彌撒只有兩部，而且都對不上任何一場具體的葬禮。四聲部那部 1577 年在巴黎出版；奧格斯堡一座修道院的圖書館裡另有一份移調抄本，供男聲組合使用，裡面多出一段巴黎印本沒有的〈Dies irae〉。那一段在這張碟上是第十一軌，十三分二十秒，全碟最長的一條。五聲部的那部出版於 1589 年，Lassus 過世前五年。Vox Luminis 把兩部並置，五聲部在前、四聲部在後，前者亮，後者沉。編制小，聲部之間看得很清楚，這是他們一貫的做法。

Liam Shortall's first album for Ninja Tune opens with its own title track, which lasts fifty-seven seconds and then gets out of the way. What follows is fourteen more, arranged with the logic of a mixtape rather than a jazz record: Mick Jenkins on "WHODIS," anaiis on "APRIL," BINA. and Jacob Alon at the back end. The one to start with is "GO," where the Nigerian rapper Vector takes the vocal over Shortall's bass and synths, Graham Costello's drums, and a string line from Patsy Reid that keeps rising underneath without ever quite arriving. The video for it was shot entirely in Lagos. Immersion — What Is Lost Will Return

Five songs and three instrumentals, which is a slightly unusual thing to announce in one's own press copy, and typical of a duo who would rather talk about ratios than about Wire and Minimal Compact. Colin Newman and Malka Spigel have now made two of these in as many years. Matt Schulz of Holy Fuck drums on six tracks; the credits list Spigel on bass, guitar, MS-10, recorder, and reversed guitar, in that order. The title track sits fifth and runs five and a half minutes, the longest thing here, and the closest the record comes to standing still. Ten tracks, all titled in lowercase German, produced by Sophie Lindinger of Leyya and mastered in Sweden by Frida Claeson Johansson. The Viennese quartet's fourth is looser than the three before it — Sophie Löw's voice sits low and unhurried in the mix, and the guitars have thinned out considerably. The longest song, at 4:23, translates as knowing only who one is not. 維也納四人組第四張，Sophie Löw 詞曲與主唱。製作人是 Leyya 的 Sophie Lindinger，混音 Jakob Herber，母帶交給瑞典的 Frida Claeson Johansson——三個工序三個人，聲音卻比前三張鬆。十首曲名全是小寫德文，從〈kaputte speaker〉開始，到〈das schillern〉結束。最長的一首叫〈weiß nur wer ich nicht bin〉，四分二十三；最短的〈die welt in kreisen〉只有兩分二十七。

Kai Slater recorded these eleven songs in September and October of 2023 on a Tascam Porta One, in a concrete room in Chicago he calls Stülo Gulo, and dubbed about fifty cassettes of them. K Records has now given the thing a catalogue number and a 33RPM label. The last track, "Race For The Audience," is still marked as a demo, and nobody appears to have considered removing the word. Amy Dragon mastered it, which mostly means she left the hiss where it was. Kai Slater 是芝加哥 Lifeguard 與 Dwaal Troupe 的人，Sharp Pins 是他一個人的計畫。這十一首錄於 2023 年九到十月，一臺 Tascam Porta One 四軌機，地點是他自己叫作 Stülo Gulo 的水泥屋。當年只翻了五十卷卡帶自己發，如今 K Records 給了編號 klp320，黑膠標 33RPM。末軌〈Race For The Audience〉到現在還掛著 demo 兩個字，沒人打算把它藏起來。

Twenty years into a career, an Iwate shoegaze band turns in five tracks about night and calls the last one "In the Dark." At 4:53 it is the longest thing on the EP, and it is where the guitars finally stop apologising. 巖手出身的 shoegaze 樂團，今年是結成二十週年，交出來的卻是一張五軌 EP。官方把主題寫成「夜」與「生と死」。收尾的〈In the Dark〉四分五十三，是全片最長的一首。二十年打底的樂團不急著證明什麼，這一點在編曲上聽得出來。

A band that is now one person: the singer 安田光佑 (Kosuke Yasuda), whose debut album this is. Seven songs, recorded, mixed and mastered by a single engineer, 守屋水月, with a sleeve 安田 drew himself. The longest is called "Child" and runs just under six minutes. I want to hear it two more times before saying anything else about it. 樂團現在只剩主唱安田光佑一個人，這是首張專輯。七首，錄音、混音、母帶全由工程師守屋水月一手包辦，封面也是安田自己畫的。官方把它形容成短篇集：同一個場所，各自的孤獨。最長的〈Child〉快六分鐘，最短的〈Lemon〉三分半。
